About Ranebennuru

Ranebennuru is the city in the located in district of Haveri in the state of Karnataka at geographical centre of the state. From the state capital and metro city, Bangalore, the city is 300 kms away.
The city is widely stretched around 42.32 sq. km with an geographical elevation of 605 metres (1985 ft.). As per the census recorded in 2011, the city has recorded a population of 1,06,365 inhabitants. The records constitute around 50% of male population and the rest 50% female population also includes around 10.8% children under the age of six. The literate people counts to an average of 61%. This count comprises of 60% male literate and 62% female literates. The overall average literate count is above national average count.

Economy of Ranebennuru

The important river Tungabhadra flows along the southern part of the city. Kumadvathi River starting its flow from Madagh Masur enters the city and unites with Tungabhadra River. This is the reason why the main occupation of the people in the city is agriculture and supplementary activities. The climatic conditions are also favourable in the city for farming activities and hence most of the people earn their livelihood from farming. Cotton and Jowar are hugely produced in the city by the farmers as climate is most suited to these two products.

Other than cotton and jowar, coconut, betel leaves and tomatoes are farmed by the farmers. Sericulture is another important activity done in the city. The city is famous for the market of cotton yarn, cotton seed, betel leaf, betel nut. The cloth market in the city is mostly flooded with people and retailers where they can get the cloth products in the wholesale rate. In the cloth section, Sarees are mostly produced in the city and marketed across the district and state. The sarees produced in the city are well known for its popularity and large scale of varieties. Sha Sukhraj Mithalal Sarees is the famous store specialized in saree business established in late twentieth century.

The natural gift and climatic condition of the city is attracted by many industrial giants for starting their venture in the city. The rivers flowing around the city is a boon to the industrial development of the city. Another main thing attracting the industrialists are it connected to Natonal Highway NH4 and state highways including SH26, SH57 and SH76. Some of the popular ventures in the city are Grasim Industries of Aditya Birla Group, Ramco Industries, Suraj Seeds etc.

The other attraction of the city is Ranibennur Blackduck Sanctuary. This was established for the protection of blackducks which have a count more than 6000 as per recorded in 2005.
